For those of you actually reading this blog, I just wanted to inform you that for the next month or so, postings will be sparse, if there are any at all. Why you may ask? Well, Tylor and I set this blog up as a way to keep our loved ones updated on our adventures abroad. Since I am on my way home this very minute, it doesn’t make sense for me to bore you with my mundane daily activities; that is of course, unless these happen to take place in Beirut, where everything is always an unexpected adventure!
There is really no dramatic reason for me coming home, so please don’t worry! After being in bed sick for almost three straight weeks, being in the worst pain of my life, losing ten pounds and having to drop my Lebanese Arabic summer program; it turns out that I wasn’t struggling with kidney stones as was diagnosed, but instead a reoccurrence of my endometriosis. Yippy for me! I don’t know if my sarcasm actually came through in my last statement but you get the gist.
Being sick is not a fun task. Being sick in a foreign country is dreadfully awful. Now that I am feeling somewhat better and since I don’t have anything holding me in Beirut for the next month (no class, the apartment is set-up and my fabulous roomie Sara and our friend Chris are taking care of the apartment and Asad), I decided to take full advantage of my health insurance back home, which is still valid until mid-August. Obviously the fact that I have a doting fiancĂ© whom I miss desperately and who has offered to nurse me back to my formerly healthy self influenced my decision just a bit.
So for the next month or so, while Tylor is finishing up with his thesis and his job with the Iraqi students, I am going to take care of my health, run yet another yard sale (any offers for help, I promise to provide breakfast, coffee and free entertainment!), finish selling the rest of the items neither Tylor nor myself were able to get to earlier, continue the wedding planning (more details on that later, I promise), eat lots of yummy unhealthy American food, catch up with my friends (karaoke anyone?) and last but not least, go shopping! I can’t remember if I whined about how expensive everything seems to be in Beirut, if I have, my apologies. Let me just reiterate that I promise never to take Goodwill, Target, and Old Navy for granted again!
Tylor and I are returning to Beirut together on August 18 and we leave for Cyprus on August 24, so keep your eyes peeled for new posts in the upcoming months!
Hugs and kisses from somewhere over South Dakota,
Tam
